REZ - PS2 - Xbox arcade
March 22nd, 2008Been willing to make a post about this game since a long while now, but I've been forgetting about it... Well, this game was the main inspiration for my "future" animation, and the one that got me into this synaesthesia fanboyism.
This game is basically a Rail shooter (similar to Star Fox) with graphics no much more advanced than that old 16-bit game. Some say this is a music game, where you have to hear the rythm to predict enemies and stuff, but its more like your gameplay simply produces melodic sounds that somehow add to the music in a random way. The rest of the music connection is how the scenery is a visual representation of the current part of the song (as the song is separated into 10 zones per level, each with a different angle from the current enviroment).
I kept on visualizing levels for each techno song I kept on hearing, so 7 levels seemed too few for this concept, and I've been dreaming on a sequel.
The game itself it's very easy, but I think it's some of the charm that you're able to relax during the game itself. Archieving a 100% shutdown is another thing, though.
For you 360 users out there that don't know yet, this game has been released in the Xbox Arcade, so go and get it! I sure hope this brings out the possibility of a next-gen sequel (or a psp one)
Speaking of an PSP rez, here's an interesting homebrew video:

March 4th, 2008Midi drawings
February 29th, 2008There has been this software called "The Music Animation Machine", which basically shows the notes on a midi in a graphic manner (colored dots, lines, and others). This guy took some oldschool music and did some drawings with the notes, while keeping the music audible!
I love the totally oldschool feeling of it, because, as we know "WOW, CHECK THIS OUT! PIXEL ART IS AWESOME!" so music pixels must be awesome+.
Everyday shooter
February 25th, 2008I'm SO getting this game as soon as I get a PS3.
Mario World DJing
February 25th, 2008There have been these videos around of Super Mario World Hacks that take advantage of it's physics engine to make some incredible self playing levels. But this guys took it to the next level, making music with the sounds effects of the playtrough!
